Homeopathy has proved to be very effective for health problems that may arise during pregnancy,  child-birth and after delivery. These problems may include: nausea, vomiting, bleeding, fainting, hemorrhoids, fatigue, exhaustion, frequent urination, threat of miscarriage, prevention of pre-term birth,  fear of dying in childbirth, weak labor pain, prolonged labor, seizures during childbirth, postpartum depression, wounds or incisions from childbirth, constipation due to pregnancy or childbirth, etc. The use of homeopathic remedies before, during and after pregnancy can help to ensure a drug-free pregnancy and labor. During pregnancy

For vomiting and nausea:

Sepia 9C- An empty feeling in your stomach, morning sickness, aversion to tobacco and smell of food. Usually cravings for acidic food such as vinegar and pickles.

Ipecacuanha 9C: For those with vomiting and nausea that does not improve. A clean tongue that appears to be varnished or shiny accompanied by a lack of thirst. One may feel worse when lying down, but also worse when in motion. Nausea remains even after  vomiting.

Colchicum 5C: Aversion to the smell of food  and other strong odors. Nausea and vomiting is worse with movement and has a sore and bloated feeling in the abdomen.

Bryonia 9C: For those women who have intense thirst and nausea is relieved by keeping still. Splitting headaches. Morning nausea.

Kreosotum 5C: If there is heartburn and acidic, burning vomit.

Iris 5C: If there is heartburn and acidic, burning vomit with the addition of migraines.

Cocculus 9C: Symptom of yawning, severe dizziness and improvement with the heat.

Symphoricarpus 5C: For those with uncontrollable vomiting.

Tabacum 9C: If there is drooling, pallor, palpitations, nausea and vomiting. Fresh air improves overall well-being.

Ignatia 9C: For those that vomiting improves with some kind of distraction.


Effective remedies we can mention include:

Collinsonia Canadensis, Aesculus Hippocastanum or Lachesis Mutus.

For stress, anxiety, or fear of childbirth:

Gelsemium 15C: Helps lessen the anxiety and fear of childbirth

Nux vomica 15C: Is ideal for very active and decisive, impatient (eager) women that feel as if pregnancy is an obstacle that does not allow her to continue with normal activities. For women who also tend to get sick or stressed when they are in charge.

Pulsatilla 15C: For women with mood swings, susceptibility, crying and afraid of being a lone, seeking comfort and sympathy.  They look for consolation.

To facilitate childbirth:

Actaea Racemos 9C: Once a day in order to avoid false contractions. Recommended to start taking one month before the due date.

Caulophyllum 9C: Start one week before the due date. Once a day to avoid the uterine rigidity. When contractions begin, start taking every 15 minutes. It is a great remedy to facilitate dilation and speed up delivery.

After delivery:

Fatigue: Arnica Montana 15C + China 9C:  Take each twice a day for one week after childbirth. With this effective remedy patients recover in an incredible way.

Spasmodic pain in breastfeeding:

Colocynthis 5C + Caulophyllum 9C: Take one of each before breastfeeding to prevent pain.

Episiotomy: Arnica Montana 9C + Apis 15C: In the week following delivery, take each three times a day.

Staphysagria 15C: Take once a day to improve healing.

Pyrogenium 9C + Hepar Sulphuris: Take each twice daily at separate times (at least two hours between the remedies, in this order) Very effective for preventing infections and should be used the week after delivery.

(Pyrogenium is the homeopathic antibiotic. Hepar Sulphuris the homeopathic anti inflammatory.)

Epidural Anesthesia:

Apis 15C + Gelsemium 15C: Should be used immediately  after birth if there is back pain  and headaches.Take each three times a day. If nerve pain is also present, the addition of  Hypericum 15C is necessary.

Urinary complications:

Causticum 15C  : To be taken at bedtime if there is incontinence or retention.

Staphysagria 15C: To be taken morning and night if urine is clear and there is pain.

Urogenital strengthening:

Sepia 15C + Calcareous Fluorica 9C: Take both daily to help improve muscle tone and strengthen the pelvic floor.

Postpartum depression:

Natrum Mur 30C: Take once a day in case of depression.

Phosphoricum Acidum15C: Take every night if there is nervous exhaustion.

Actaea Racemos 30C: Recommended once a day for two months for those suffering with the specific depression where women after childbirth feel as if something has been stolen from them. Extreme feeling of emptiness.


In preparation for breastfeeding:

These remedies should be started in the 9th month of pregnancy:

China 9C: Once a day.

Silicea 15C: Once a week

Increase of the milk and weaning:

Ricinus Communis 5C + Lac Caninum 5C: To be taken three times a day.

To stop milk production:

Ricinus Communis 30C + Lac Caninum 30C: To be taken three times a day.

Breast engorgement:

Apis 15C + Bryonia 9C: Three times a day: For swollen breast resulting in pain when pressure is applied. Plugged ducts.

Phytolacca: When the breast feels hard.

Belladonna 9C: When the breast feels hot and is red


Bufo Rana 5C + Lachesis 15C: Recommended to take each once a day.

Damaged Nipples:

Nitricum Acidum 15C: To be taken three times a day if the cracks are linear and bleeding.

Graphites 15C: To be taken three times a day for cracked nipples with yellowish crust.
